Weight Check

Cody had to go for a weight check appointment today (6/25) to make sure he was gaining his weight back. He was 6 lbs 7 oz when he was born and when we left the hospital he was 5 lbs 15 oz which isn't abnormal, they were just concerned cause he wasn't eating. In away this appointment was a total nightmare. Not at the fault of Kaiser but everything else around me. We had a 3:30 appointment and got there about 15 minutes early. We put Cody in the chair next to Jon and all of a sudden 2 hispanic children came running over trying to touch him. Jon told them to get away while their parents we totally unaware to what they were doing. I quickly grabbed Cody and stood up with him in the corner of the room (I was in SOOOO much pain and just wanted to sit). 30-40 minutes later we were finally called in. The nurse apologized for the delay saying the lady before me was ill. Jon was a little rude to the nurse at first and started to explain what happen while we were waiting, how I was sent home without the pain meds I needed (they were down stairs in the pharmacy waiting for me), and the over all hospital stay. At that point I was crying and upset, as was Jon. Here we are concerned cause our son hasn't been eating and was losing weight. The nurse was very sympathetic at that point and very helpful during the appointment. She listened to Cody breat-feeding and noticed that he wasn't really swallowing but latched on great. Everything else in the appointment was great. I was told to keep trying the breast-feeding and to supplement him with formula. She wants me to come back on Wednesday to check and see how he's doing. I guess only time will tell if breast-feeding is in our future.

Coming Home

We finally got out of the hospital got my medicine and went to pick up Hunter. I'm so happy to be home with my boys and to sleep in my own bed. Once I got home it was time to take another pain pill. When I looked through my prescripitions I saw that they only gave me the 800 mg Motroin and no Vicodine. I was about to cry. I could only take 1 motroin every eight hours and it alone didn't help the pain. Luckily I had some left over vicodine from the miscarriage that hadn't expired yet and i was able to take that till the morning when my doctor could priscribe more. Jon has been awesome since we've gotten home. He did some grocery shopping today and when we got home he got me something to drink and set the card table up in the living room so I could use it for Cody without having to bend over. Jon made us a great dinner with carne asada and got Hunter ready for bed and now it's time for all to get some sleep.

In The Hospital

My hospital stay wasn't as relaxing as with Hunter. Although I felt 10 times better after the surgery this time it was still hard for me to move around and do things. I finally got out of recovery around 4 pm and moved into my room. Once I got into the bed I was FINALLY able to hold Cody, 4 hours after the surgery. I was still starving at this point and they said I wouldn't be able to eat till the following morning.

Hunter came into visit me and I don't think I will ever forget his reaction to Cody. He ignored Cody and anyone who was holding Cody. He wanted nothing to do with him or with me. My parents took Hunter back to there house, he had been at the hospital since 7:15 that morning and was a very tired little boy. Jon and I relaxed with Cody and I attempted to breastfeed Cody. Hunter never latched on so breastfeeding was completely new to me. Later that night Jon went and picked up Hunter from my parents house and brought him by to say "good night" and then the two of them went home to get some sleep. The rest of the evening was pretty quite till about 2 am. I had just got Cody to go to sleep and I was finally falling asleep myself when the nurse came in turning on the lights and banging around on the bed next to mine. My worst fear was coming true . . . I had to have a roommate. I guess after I had Cody they delivered 11 babies which made it a full house. It was nice after I had Hunter to have my own room so I could rest. I wasn't so lucky this time and at that point I just wanted to go home.

The rest of my hospital stay was fine. It was interesting to see the difference between the 2 deliveries. Hunter was in distress when he was born so the doctors kept a close eye on him over the next few days. Cody was fine when he was born so he wasn't checked as often by the doctors. It was a totally different experience and I was prepared for how it was after I had Hunter. This time around it was much easier and I wasn't in as much pain.

Thank you to all our visitors, Mom, Dad, Andrea, Matt, Pauline, Candace & Jackson and all our phone calls, Kelly, Pastor Jim, Grandma Nancy.
